Musical Experience & studies of Therapeutic Sound I have been playing music for a long time. My musical experience includes 9 years of playing concert flute, over 3 years of classical guitar, 4 years of therapeutic sound in private practice and with groups, 4 years of Indigenous Flute Key of D and recently being gifted a flute in the Key of F.
Currently I offer treatments that will include bowls that have a Hertz that will be of most benefit to you personally. I have over 20 bowls to work with, all with a measured frequency. How many bowls I use depends on whats presenting when you arrive. There are tonal differences that can be heard during treatments, and I will use bowls for specific areas addressing your personal needs. The bowls are not played all at once. I am very contentious of creating harmony and sounding them gently around your ears and head.
My studies of Therapeutic sound are ongoing, as science and peer-reviewed research papers are being published and circulated. Its really exciting to be able to bring this research into my practice, classes and retreats.
My training with Tibetan bowls was with Lisa Wilvert. She is one of the very few Canadians that has studied and learned the techniques of using Tibetan Singing bowls as a form of sound therapy in Nepal. She trained with Master Sound Healers, Shree Krishna Shahi and Santa Ratna Shakya, both third generation singing bowl healers and teachers, in Nepal, as well as Master Satya Brat, from Kolkata, India. In addition, she has extensive training in the use of planetary Tibetan singing bowls based on the work of Hans Cousto and the teachings of Renaissance physician, Paracelsus.
Tibetan Bowl Treatments These unique and beautiful treatments include the use of Tibetan bowls that have been measured for their healing frequencies. A client lays on a massage table with a blanket comfortably covering their body to allow a smooth surface to glide the bowls along. During the session, bowls are introduced one at a time around the body and placed on different areas such as the legs, abdomen, chest, and arms. During the treatment a bowl will be placed between the feet or on a stool at the end of the table, a bowl will be between the knees, on the abdomen, the chest, and on stools around the head of the table. Care is taken so the bowls are sounded at a quieter volume closer to the head, and louder at the feet. During the treatment seven or more bowls are used to create a gentle sound bath. During a treatment please come wearing as little metal as possible (zipper and button free, bras without underwire, jewellery that can be removed.) Please note that Sound treatments are not suitable for those with a pace maker, broken bones, or who are pregnant
Sound & Vibrational Therapy The theory behind Tibetan bowls is comparable to our knowledge of colours and wavelength. Just as we know all colours have different wave lengths, the systems & organs in our body also have varying measurable wave lengths as well. Our heart is different then our spleen, which is different from our liver. With this in mind we use specific bowls that have been measured for their frequency (Hertz) over correlating areas of the body.
Entrainment is the main principal of Sound Therapy. Just as two metronomes in the same room will eventually match time, so it is with the bowls and the areas that they are being played over. We see entrainment happen with the people we spend time with, our moods will waiver up or down finding a middle with that person. Women who spend a lot of time with each other find that their cycles start to match. During a sound treatment our body will harmonize with the bowls. The bowls literally act as a tuning instrument for the body. When sounding the bowls on people, sometimes the change in sound is distinctly heard by the client and myself. I will play the bowls on an area until the sound has greater clarity.
There is a lot of scientific research being done that supports the benefits of sound and vibrational therapies. Tibetan bowls also have a measurable effect on brain waves, and create a deep state of relaxation which allows the body a greater opportunity for healing and recovery.
My bowls are large, deep, full-body sounding metal bowls that have been purchased with a local teacher who orders them and has them shipped from Nepal. I have chosen them based on their physical sound, their attributes & frequencies that they resonate at, and for their weight. The heavier hammered bowls have a mature and full sound.
The intention of the person working with the sound is as important as the frequency which is being projected at a person to create resonant frequency healing. Jonathon Goldman
This means that depending upon where an individuals awareness is placed when he creates a certain sound, the sound will carry information on that state of the person receiving it. Steven Halpern, PhD
